Some basic tips if you are planning your next vacation to Iceland

  1. Iceland is the kind of country where you really need to plan ahead. Everything is spread out so that you’ll need to organize your itinerary to minimize your driving time.
  2. If you’re visiting in the summer, then there will be constant daylight. It can be beneficial as you can cover a lot of sightseeing into a day. It can also affect your sleep, so it is better to keep track of time. 
  3. Some parts of Iceland look like heaven, some areas look like the moon. Most parts of Iceland looks like nowhere else on Earth. Use your Camera to prove it once you are back.
  4. Be prepared for any and all kinds of kind of weather. Rain is common and it can come anytime, during the bright sun too. Carry your raincoat with you.
  5. Visit Blue Lagoon. It is relaxing in the blue water. Plan this at the end of your trip. It will give you time for relaxation.
  6. Don’t try to schedule too much into one day. Driving distances may take longer than you think. And it is not fun to just stamp a place and leave in order to cover the whole list. Spare time to explore and enjoy Iceland’s natural beauty.
  7. Lopapeysa, or the iconic Icelandic sweaters. They are not just for tourists, locals too use it. Both warm and water resistant. You can also use them while ice climbing.
  8. Try to get close to a glacier either on a glacier hike or a boat tour of a glacier lagoon. 
  9. Wear Raincoat before getting close to the waterfalls.
  10. Pack snack along with you. You will not find cafes and food available everywhere. The distances are far from one place to the other. Pack easy to carry snacks to refuel yourself.
  11. Don’t be afraid to drive. Icelanders drive on the right and the maps provided by the car rental agency can ease your experience.
  12. Carry a credit card. You will not need to exchange currency as credit cards are widely accepted at almost all the places.
  13. Most of the gas stations with convenience stores and facilities close at 9 pm so fuel up early if you are going for a long drive. 
  14. It is very difficult to find a public restroom after the gas stations close so plan it accordingly.
  15. Don’t buy bottled water, just bring a refillable bottle and fill it up from any tap.
  16. Check for public holidays. National Independence Day is in June. So if you are visiting during June, and many businesses will be closed. 
  17. Obey the traffic and speeding rules. You won’t see many police cars but there are traffic cameras all around!
  18. Pre-book. We generally prefer to go with the flow, but if you are going during a peak season then even the ferries get booked out.
  19. Don’t go for all booked tours. Many times the pre-booked tours differentiate the small tours to get more money from customers. You can manage some tours on your oen.
  20. Take less than you need. Iceland is a country where you will need to move a lot, also the weather conditions are such that you will be able to enjoy it in comfortable clothes.
