1. Follow the dress code
As the Grand Palace is a consecrated place, you’ll need to respect the strict dress code in place. This strictly means skirts and trousers that cover the knees and shirts that cover the shoulders.
Check the official list of what is NOT allowed:
- Shorts, mini-skirts, short skirts, tight fitting trousers
- Gauzy shirts and blouses, quarter length trousers
- Sleeveless shirts or vests
- Sandals
- Rolled-up-sleeved shirts
- Sweatshirts and sweatpants, windcheaters, pyjamas
2. Best way to reach is by boat
Reaching the Grand Palace by boat is a really fun and easy way to get around Bangkok. The main reason behind that is the cool windy breeze and great views of Bangkok. It won’t be a boring taxi/bus ride in the scary traffic of Bangkok.
3. Go early
The Grand Palace is open from 8:30 am until 3:30 pm each day. If you wish to avoid heat and crowd, the best time is to visit this place early.
4. Avoid Heat
It is extremely hot, it is very important to stay hydrated and fueled as you will feel lethargic with an extreme sun.

5. Take time and explore
The entry fee is around 500 bahts. It is a little expensive than the other attractions. Not just this, you need to have time to explore all interesting myths and grand history about the place. The grand palace closes early. It is best to spare proper time for the visit.
6. Don’t miss Emerald Buddha
Temple of the Emerald Buddha is within the Grand Palace. It is also known as ‘Wat Phra Kaew’. It an incredibly sacred place. The small, beautiful Buddha is around 2,000 years old, enlightening the temple since a lot of years. It was originally made in India then it was lost and again found in Thailand. There’s much more to the interesting story, which you can explore about at the temple.
7. Take a guided tour
This is my personal experience. I always believe in exploring the place on my own, but this place is better with a guided tour. The grand palace is extremely crowded, the most valuable information we got from the guide was, which part will be best to do first, which part will be cool and less crowded and when.
