Welcome to New Zealand! On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Enjoy 3 hours sight-seeing in the "Garden City". At the International Antarctic Centre you have the opportunity to experience the awesome and challenging Antarctic environment. The displays show both past and present exploration in an informative way. You can experience the actual weather conditions as well in the 'snow and ice' room. Afterwards, it’s off to the hotel for the night. [B]
Have breakfast at the hotel, ldrive to Greymouth. After crossing the huge and fertile patchwork farmlands of the Canterbury Plains, the Tranz Alpine winds its way over massive viaducts, through spectacular river gorges and the stunning Waimakariri River valley. It tracks its way up and across the spectacular Southern Alps via the alpine village of Arthur’s Pass situated 737 metres above sea level, before descending through lush beech forests past the beautiful Lake Brunner to the West Coast town of Greymouth, on the Tasman Sea. and travel south along the Scenic West Coast, enjoying views of the Southern Alps to the East and the Tasman Sea to the west as you make your way to the Glacier Region. Check-in to your hotel and enjoy the evening on your own. [B]
After breakfast at the hotel, depart for your self-drive journey to Queenstown. Depart the Glacier Region this morning and travel down the West Coast past spectacular mountain ranges, native forests and lakes to the Haast Pass, gateway to World Heritage Westland National Park. Follow the shores of Lakes Hawea and Wanaka to the resort city of Queenstown. Arrive Queenstown and check-in to the hotel. Enjoy the rest of your day at leisure in this beautiful town. [B]
After breakfast, self-drive for a full day tour to Milford Sound. Follow the southern arm of Lake Wakatipu to Lumsden, and onward to Lake Te Anau. The scenery changes dramatically from tussock covered grasslands to glacier hewn valleys as you enter the Eglinton Valley and travel through the breath taking man made Homer Tunnel to reach Milford Sound. Enjoy a cruise on this world famous fiord, dominated by Mitre Peak and the cascading Bowen Falls. Afterwards, return to Queenstown on your own. [B]
After breakfast, you have the day free at this beautiful resort town which is also the world’s adventure capital. Brave yourself to enjoy an optional ride on the speeding jetboat or go on a rafting trip before you culminate with a bungee jump from the historic Kawaru Bridge. Overnight at the hotel. [B]
After breakfast, self-drive to the airport for your flight to Rotorua or Auckland, Upon arrival in Rotorua, pick-up your rental car. Visit the famous sights of Rotorua which include Te Puia, Geothermal reserve to view the boiling mudpools and cascading Pohutu geyser, that make Rotorua famous as New Zealand's "thermal city". Here you can also enjoy a visit to the Maori Arts and Crafts Institute to view local Maori carvers in action. Witness a sheep shearing show at Agrodome Farm and a rare opportunity to spot the native bird Kiwi at Paradise Valley Springs. Tonight will be spent in Rotorua. [B]
Breakfast at the hotel, you depart Rotorua and self-drive over the forested Mamaku Ranges to reach Waitomo. Upon arrival in Waitomo, enjoy a guided tour of the world famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves including an underground boat ride (weather permitting) on a subterranean river. Overhead thousands of tiny glowworms light up the cave walls and roof. On completion continue through the fertile Waikato area through Hamilton, New Zealand’s fourth largest city to reach Auckland. Arrive Auckland at approximately 5:30pm. On arrival check into your hotel. [B]
After breakfast, check-out of the hotel and spend the day exploring Auckland. Perhaps you can visit Victoria Park Market and Westhaven Marina then on to the volcanic crater of Mt Eden where you can enjoy spectacular views of the city and harbour. Pass by the War Memorial Museum before passing through Parnell and onto Bastion Point amongst Auckland's most expensive residences. The view of the Waitemata Harbour and beaches is unmatched. Afterwards, self-drive to Auckland Airport, drop off your car and check-in for your flight back home with a heart full of memories. [B]
