Wanaka is a resort town on New Zealand's South Island. It's the gateway to the Southern Alps' Mount Aspiring National Park. It is a wilderness of giant glaciers, dense forests and beautiful alpine lakes. Wanaka is generally compared with Queenstown by many tourists. I would never compare destinations as they have something or the other to serve. Let’s have a look at the major activities and attractions.

Location

This small city, Wanaka, located on New Zealand's South Island. This amazing place has some amazing views. You can see snow-capped white mountains from almost anywhere in town. Not only that, Lupin fields, quiet ocean, and calm weather has a completely different story to narrate.

Hiking

There are many nearby mountains to hike on. There are plenty of hiking trails close to Wanaka that will take you up above the lake at some height for some great viewpoints where you can click some never seen views.

There are 2-3 mountains like Mount Iron, Rocky Mountain Trek and others nearby. If you are an adventure freak then you can also visit the instant fame summit of Roys Peak.

Rippon Vineyard

Almost every place is vantage point in Wanaka, but this specific place has a mind-blowing view.  You can also take vine tasting tour and explore the vineyard too. This is the most photographed vineyard in the whole world.

Outdoor adventure sports

Wanaka is full of crazy adventure sports that New Zealand is very well known for. You can do almost all sport with the highest level of security like mountain biking to kayaking to jet boating to skiing to skydiving, sailing etc. Apart from this, you can also fly an airplane by yourself.

Cafes

This can not be the reason to visit Wanaka, but there are many good places for food freaks. You can also take coffee and a sandwich and chill out with your group of friends for the whole evening.

Affordable

This sounds quite unacceptable but it is the truth. A lot of those adventure activities I mentioned above can be enjoyed at a far lesser price in Wanaka than in nearby Queenstown. This is not known to many people, Queenstown is very popular for its bungee jumping. All these activities can be done at a lesser price in Wanaka.

The city gives you almost everything in a small, unruffled package. We were the group of 6 people and none of basically wanted to leave!
