The Victoria Falls is situated between two countries namely Zimbabwe and Zambia. The locals call the falls as the ‘Mosi-oa-Tunya’, which means; the smoke that thunders. For the common man, it is Victoria Falls, which was named in honor of Queen Victoria of Britain.
Victoria Falls has become a well-known tourist hub of Southern Africa and can be accessed from either
Zimbabwe or Zambia. The lack of visitors is not surprising; although Zimbabwe offers the best views of the falls, its troubled history means that its neighbor, Zambia, receives the most visitors.
Travellers from nearby countries such as South Africa are finally beginning to return, but visitors from beyond the continent are relatively few. The gigantic falls give mesmerizing views from various angles. Apart from the view, there are ample of activities like the helicopter ride over the falls, bungee jumping, white river rafting and many more. Sunset cruises on the Zambezi River make for the best way to end your day.
Both the cities Zimbabwe and Zambia are richly flavored with amazing local culture and nightlife. Amazing food corners and nightlife makes the experience even better. Victoria Falls at full strength is generally around April time of year, as most of the water from rains in the west is on its way down the Zambezi River.
The Falls still flow strongly but one is able to view the
bottom due to the lower levels of water plummeting down the Falls’ – this
paints a completely different picture to when the falls are thundering as they
are in January through to May. At this time the falls really thunder down the
rocks and the temperatures are very high!
It is an experience not to be missed and it would be best to
plan several days around this amazing trip as the Chobe National Park in
Botswana is just around the corner and day trips can be arranged for a change
the scenery.
The name “Smoke that thunders” may be too much to digest on
the very first go, but after visiting the place that will be the only feeling
